Laguiole is not a brand but a shape and an appellation of a traditional French knife adorned with a mythical bee. Even though it was first created in the village of Laguiole, dating back 1829, the cutlers from the city of Thiers nearby became after the first World War the main producers of this famous knife. Claude Dozorme, Master cutler of Thiers established in 1902, was the first in France to transform the famous folding Laguiole knife into a steak knife with a fixed blade.
Claude Dozorme's Laguiole steak knives blade and handle are made in one piece of stainless steel X50CrMoV15. Combined with Dozorme grinding mastering, this very high quality steel gives the knives an excellent cutting edge, a very good hold and an easy re-sharpening of the blades.
Model handle: Vichy is this colorful and beautiful plain handle, which is a true "Vichy" fabric protected by transparent acrylic, itself firmly riveted on the steel structure. It makes it a true Laguiole Steak knife water resistant, easy to wash in a dishwasher or by hand, and maintain. The whole steel has a shiny finish. Plain handle models have also a plain spring to keep the knife harmony (no chiseling). The knives come with a nice wooden gift box.
