Signature series | R. BARTHELEMY
Despite its archaic appearance, the Nomade has highly efficient functions.
It was designed and developed by Roland Barthelemy, an international cheese expert, and Claudine Vigier, cheesemaker and sommelier consultant. Their professional experience is the source of their inspiration.
The Signature series ~ As a symbol of Excellence, Forge de Laguiole has worked hand in hand since its origin with some extremely talented and acknowledged designers. Their purpose is to combine the know-how and traditions of their Laguiole master knife-smiths with a touch of modernity through the interpretation of Laguiole by some of the most renown Design signatures. Those exceptional knives are grouped under the Signature series of Forge de Laguiole.
The Designer ~
“The evolution of our profession: the cheesemonger puts on a show. He moves around, stages his delicate aged cheeses on buffets, on modern displays; to serve them, he uses knives that distinguish him and pique the public’s curiosity. Cheese consumption has greatly evolved in recent years. As Roland often says, ‘cheese has stepped down from its platter and entered the entire meal; it is eaten at any moment of the day, it slips into the kitchen and becomes a source of inspiration.’ In wine bars, shared cheese boards, more minimalist table settings, the increasing trend of tastings on the go, at the table, or standing. In very crowded places, lively evenings, sometimes cramped spaces... The Nomade, with its highly professional features, makes it an adaptable knife for the “modern world,” while preserving the forging know‑how of Laguiole — a guarantee of high quality.
WHY THE NOMADE?
We observed and adapted a knife that corresponds to today’s needs: a “multi‑function table-service knife with a rounded, micro‑serrated tip and a curved handle.”
The Nomade is multifunctional: it cuts cheese, but it is also useful for all types of slicing and spreading in the kitchen. The perception of this knife shifts—it becomes contemporary, relaxed, playful, yet its DNA remains rooted in the heritage of the past.
— Roland Barthélemy & Claudine Vigier
Its rounded tip allows you to spread cheese. This rounded tip is micro‑serrated to penetrate soft rinds and cut through firmer ones. Its sharp stainless‑steel blade cuts all textures. The slightly upward‑curved handle offers exceptional grip.
This knife is water‑resistant.
