It retains the ergonomics of Tradition sommelier knives, with a 5-turn conical corkscrew, a highly resistant support piece and a sharp blade for cleanly cutting the capsule.
The blade of the Forge de Laguiole® Sommelier knife is sharpened, allowing the capsule to be cut off cleanly and easily.
Damascus stainless steel is extremely hard and aesthetic with deep and visible Damascus patterns. Damascus was a type of multiple layers steel used for manufacturing sword blades centuries ago in the Near East. These swords were characterized by distinctive patterns of banding and mottling reminiscent of flowing water. Such blades were reputed to be tough, resistant to shattering and capable of being honed to a sharp, resilient edge.
All Forge de Laguiole corkscrews are handmade at the smithy (forge), assembled and polished by the same dedicated craftsman. Those sommelier knives are made of the extremely high-quality French T12 stainless steel, forged in-house by their blacksmiths, which makes them extremely resistant hence can withstand intensive use for wine professionals and amateurs alike. The forge is truly located in the village of Laguiole, France, which gave birth in the XIXth century to the world-famous knives.
The bee is stamped in one piece with the spring and the horn handle features the traditional shepherd's cross. The legend tells that shepherds used to plant the blade of their knife in their bread. As the knife stood up vertically it made the shape of a cross with the bread, which provided them with a focus for their prayer.
The conical spiral, with 5 turns, optimizes the functionality, especially for the delicate corks of the finest vintage wines, while the blade is non-serrated to achieve a clean cut and provide ease of sharpening. It also doubles as a bottle cap opener.
Engraved Cape: the "Pinot Noir" series has the cape (upper part of the lever) engraved with this new pattern. "Pinot Noir" design is inspired by the shape of the vine branches and the foamy leaves of the famous grape variety. Shiny finish.
This handle material:Dark shades horn tip of Bos Taurus. The touch and feel of horn is exceptional. No two knives are exactly the same: each horn and part of it has an infinity of light, brown or black shades. That's what makes traditional Laguiole knives unique. Your models will probably therefore have different shades than those on our photos. But we guarantee you they're all beautiful.
The horn handle is enhanced by two shinystainless steel bolsters forged and fixed on a metal liner which will be drilled and polished before the assembly of the knife. They help to protect the handle during daily use.
